H+K was the first international communications consultancy to enter the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 1991 and today we have established offices in the capital, Riyadh, and the Red Sea trading hub of Jeddah. We have had an office in Riyadh since 1992.

Bashar Kharbat is general manager for Hill+Knowlton’s operations in Saudi Arabia which includes offices in both Riyadh and Jeddah. With over 20 years of communications experience both as a journalist and a consultant, Bashar has specialist expertise in the energy, healthcare and telecommunications sectors.

Bashar has been based in the Kingdom since 1999 when he was appointed bureau chief, Saudi Arabia for Iqtesadiat Alsouq Al Arabi. Subsequently he was country manager for Asda'a Burson-Marsteller in Saudi Arabia for six years.

Bashar joined the Mohammad Al Mojil Group in 2013 as director of corporate communications and public relations. He is also secretary of the board of directors and the authorized representative and signatory for the Capital Market Authority, Tadawul and Tadawulaty, as well as the Chamber of Commerce.

At Al Mojil Group Bashar was responsible for all aspects of communications, promotions and activation both internally and externally and he led a highly qualified team of ten with diverse backgrounds in communications consultancy, journalism and marketing to manage in-house all aspects of communications, branding, advertising, public relations, CSR, internal communications, and digital engagement are carried out in-house.

Bashar also has extensive financial communications experience having managed the Initial Public Offering (IPO) campaigns for blue-chip companies including Emaar, the Economic City, Petro-Rabigh / Sumitomo Chemicals, Fawaz Al Hokair Group, and Al-Babtain Power & Telecommunication Company. He was also honoured for leading the IPO communications for Al Mojil Group which was recognised as the best IPO in the Middle East.

Andrew joined H+K in September 2004 and has been a resident of Dubai since 1996. He has a passion for the convergence of content, networks and devices and leads the telecommunications and tele-media practice across the Middle East and Africa. He launched the Zain brand in the Middle East and Airtel in Africa. With 30 years communications experience gained in the UK, Europe, the Middle East and the United States, Andrew is an experienced strategist and coach for media engagement and crisis and issues management, and he has lead the communications for numerous IPOs and mergers in the Middle East and the UK. He has specialist expertise in economic development campaign planning having lead the Egypt Economic Development Conference campaign, and assignments for ITIDA and GAFI.

Prior to joining H+K, Andrew enjoyed ten years of launching digital satellite TV networks around the world with Pace Micro Technology, the innovator of MPEG-2 digital satellite deconders, culminating in directing communications for the Showtime television network in the Middle East. Other previous experience includes: a public affairs, government relations and crisis communications role with Laporte plc, a FTSE 100 global chemicals company; a marketing communications role with the Commission For The New Towns, Europe’s most successful inward investment agency; and managing technology accounts including Cellnet and Mercury Communications in a technology focused PR agency in the UK. Andrew started his career as a reporter on two evening newspapers in the UK.

A Sciences graduate of the University of Wales, Andrew’s work has won numerous awards including international SABRE Golds for the Dove Campaign For Real Beauty and the launch of Sky News Arabia in the Middle East. Andrew is a frequent speaker and moderator at production and broadcast forums. He is an advisory board member of Aflamnah, the crowd funding initiative for Arab content creation, and advisor to the GCC Board Directors Institute on corporate governance, transparency and communications.
